What is a good alto saxophone audition piece for a jazz band?
I am doing an audition for YJB (youth jazz band) and i need a jazz piece to audition from, preferably i want it well know and not incredibly difficult to play. if it is possible as well one that i can get on the internet for free but if not, somewhere i can pay and then print off the sheet music and not get a book. Thanks x
If you’re starting jazz, I highly recommend purchasing a Jamey Aebersold book(s).
Try “Yardbird Suite” by Charlie Parker. It’s not super difficult, it swings well, and it’s a classic.

An easier one is “Ladybird” by Tad Dameron.

Both of those are transposed for Eb instruments.
Make sure that you go find a recording somewhere (Youtube has a ton of recordings) of whatever you’re playing. Listening can improve your style better than any other method.
